Suunto D4 / D4i Battery — FAQ
How long does a Suunto D4/D4i battery last?
Typically 1.5–2 years, or around 100–200 dives depending on use and backlight. When the display dims or the low-battery symbol appears, it is time for a replacement.
Does this kit fit the Suunto D4f?
Yes — the D4f uses the same CR2450 battery and O-ring as the D4 and D4i, so this kit fits it too.
Is the Suunto D4i battery hard to replace myself?
No — just follow the step-by-step video above. Always fit the new O-ring with a thin film of silicone grease to keep the seal waterproof to depth.
Will any CR2450 fit my Suunto D4 or D4i?
No. Every CR2450 is 24.5 x 5.0 mm on paper, but the stepped rim of the can varies between makers, and Suunto built the D-series with two different baffle plates inside the battery compartment. The rule that keeps you safe: the cover must seat flush and screw home without force. If you have to press hard, the cell is not sitting deep enough - stop. Full explanation here.
Which brand should I choose - Energizer, Murata or Varta?
All three are major manufacturers and all three fit the D4 and D4i. Of the set, the Varta has the most pronounced step at the base - the narrowest rim - so it drops deepest into a tight compartment and is the one we would reach for first on an older unit. Energizer and Murata are the standard choice and carry no surcharge.
Is Murata the same as Sony?
Yes. Sony sold its battery business to Murata, so a Murata CR2450 is the cell many divers still look for under the Sony name. If your computer originally came with a Sony cell, Murata is the direct continuation of it.
Does it matter where I buy the battery?
It does. Divers have reported buying cells badged as one brand that turned out to be a different maker's cell inside - and those did not fit. Every cell we ship comes in its own manufacturer packaging, together with the replacement O-ring and silicone grease.
