Dive Confidence

Most newly certified divers do not have a knowledge problem. They have a specific, nagging problem in the water — air that runs out first, a depth they cannot hold, ears that will not clear. How each page is built

Every problem answers the same four questions, in the same order, so you always know where to look.

  1. What is happening. The symptom described as you would actually experience it, with a short self-check.
  2. Why it happens. The recognised causes, ordered from most to least common, each with the physics or physiology behind it and a source you can go and read.
  3. What to try on your next dive. One task. Not a list of ten tips — those are how good advice gets ignored.
  4. How you will know it is working. A measurable criterion, with published reference figures where the agencies publish them, and an honest “not published” where they do not.

Where the content comes from

The material is drawn from published guidance by DAN, PADI, SSI, BSAC, NAUI, CMAS, TDI/SDI, Dive Training and Scuba Diving magazine, along with peer-reviewed diving medicine literature. Every figure on every page links to the source that published it. Where no agency publishes a number — and for new divers that is more often than you would expect — we say so instead of inventing one.
