A flat 316 stainless plate with the wrench profiles a diver actually reaches for cut straight into it. It lives in a BCD pocket or on a bolt snap and weighs almost nothing, which is the point - the tool you have with you on the boat beats the better tool sitting at home in the workshop.

What is cut into it

• Seven open spanner sizes - 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 19 mm, for hose nuts, port plugs and gauge fittings
• Large curved cut-out - grips the collar of a corrugated inflator hose
• Stepped slot along the middle for smaller flats
• Bottle opener at the lower edge, and a hole to take a bolt snap or lanyard

Size and material

• 85 × 53 mm, flat plate - pocket or lanyard sized
• 316 stainless steel - the marine grade, so it rinses and goes back in the bag without rusting

The maker's dimension drawing is included in the photos above, with every profile numbered and the spanner sizes marked. Check it against your own fittings before ordering - a tool with fixed cut-outs either fits a nut or it does not.

What it is not

This is a convenience tool for field adjustments and save-a-dive fixes, not a workshop substitute. Cut-out spanners grip on fewer faces than a proper ring spanner, so for anything that needs real torque - a valve bonnet, a first-stage yoke retainer - use the right tool and the right torque figure. On regulators still under warranty, leave the work to your service centre.
